Miami Marlins starting pitcher Max Meyer gave up two hits in seven innings helping to lead Miami over the St. Louis Cardinals 4-0 at Busch Stadium, improving his record to 9-0 on the season.
The Marlins scored all four of their runs late in the game off the Cardinals bullpen putting up two runs in the eighth inning when Graham Pauley and Kyle Stowers each drove in a run before Jakob Marsee's two-out single off Redbirds reliever Max Rajcic in the ninth inning scored the final two runs of the game.
Meyer, who was reinstated from the bereavement list just before the start, struck out five and walked two. One of the hits against him was a bunt. Meyer remains the only qualified starter in the majors without a loss this season and he has now tied Livan Hernández for the best record to open a season in Marlins history.
St. Louis starter Michael McGreevy pitched six scoreless innings. He limited the Marlins to five hits with a walk and struck out four, bouncing back from his previous start when he gave up five earned runs in five innings at Kansas City. Reliever George Soriano fell to 3-2 on the season giving up two runs in one inning of relief. The Cardinals had just three hits on the day with José Fermín going 1-for-3 with a double, Lars Nootbaar going 1-for-3 with a walk, and Jordan Walker going 1-for-4.
St. Louis has now lost three straight games and looks to turn things around tomorrow against Miami. Neither team has announced a starter. First pitch is at 6:15pm, coverage will begin at 6:05 on KY 102 (102.5 FM).
