One day after adding to their bullpen, signing reliever Alex Lange, the Kansas City Royals shored up their infield, agreeing to terms with second baseman Jonathan India to avoid arbitration.&nbsp;

India had been considered a candidate to be non-tendered following a first season in Kansas City in which he posted a .233/.323/.346 line. He was acquired in November in a trade that sent Brady Singer to the Reds.&nbsp; The Royals though signed India to a one year deal, a source telling MLB.com the deal is worth $8 million. He made just over $7 million in 2025.

Kansas City did also reach an agreement with relief pitcher James McArthur to avoid arbitration as well.&nbsp;&nbsp;Friday is Major League Baseball’s tender deadline. Clubs must decide to offer a 2026 contract to their arbitration-eligible players or otherwise non-tender them, making them free agents.&nbsp;

Royals resign India to one year deal avoiding arbitration

The Royals signed former Detroit Tigers closing pitcher Alex Lange to a one year deal on Thursday to a deal worth&nbsp; $900,000 in 2026 with $100,000 in performance bonuses, a source told MLB.com.&nbsp;&nbsp;Lange will still be arbitration-eligible after the 2026 season and is under club control through 2028.&nbsp;

On the injured list for most of the 2025 season because of right lat surgery, Lange made just one appearance for the Tigers before he was optioned to Triple-A Toledo in August. In 24 Triple-A appearances, Lange posted a 4.63 ERA.&nbsp; He was designated for assignment by the Tigers on November 12th.

Lange though is not that far removed from being a key piece of Detroit's bullpen. He notched 26 saves for the Tigers in 2023, with 32 save opportunities, and posted a 3.68 ERA across 66 innings that year, which included a 27.4% strikeout rate. Between 2022-23, he appeared in 138 games and posted a 3.55 ERA.&nbsp;&nbsp;His strikeout rate plummeted in 2024, though, and he was optioned to Triple-A before the significant lat injury ended his season.

Lange went to Lee’s Summit West High School in Lee’s Summit, Mo., just outside of Kansas City. He went to Louisiana State University and was a first-round pick by the Cubs in the 2017 Draft.&nbsp; If Lange is healthy again and his stuff still plays like it did in ‘23, the Royals are getting a bounce-back candidate who could add depth to their bullpen.&nbsp;

Royals add bullpen help signing KC native, former Detroit closer Alex Lange

The Missouri Volleyball Coaches Association has announced the 2025 All State selections for Class 1 through Class 5 as the high school volleyball season has concluded.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Among those honored in Class 1 were Mound City junior Maggie Osburn and Rock Port sophomore Braylyn Wood.&nbsp; Mound City fell to Rock Port in the Class 1 District 16 championship game, before the Blue Jays fell to Northland Christian in the Class 1 sectional round.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Osburn finished the season for Mound City with 354 kills, 66 serving aces, and a hitting percentage of .242.&nbsp; For Rock Port, Wood recorded 77 serving aces with 293 kills and had 362 digs, also recording 77 assists for the season.

In Class 2, two East Buchanan Bulldogs represented the area, along with one from Lawson and another from Mid-Buchanan.&nbsp; East Buchanan senior Brooklynn Johnson and junior Kendyl Edwards were selected.&nbsp; Johnson and Edwards helped lead the Bulldogs to a fourth place finish in the Class 2 State tournament.&nbsp; Johnson finished the season with 376 kills and a .244 hitting percentage.&nbsp; Johnson also recorded 52 total blocks in her final year.&nbsp; Edwards put up a whopping 733 assists, ranked #2 in Class 2 District 16, and had 221 digs.&nbsp; She also had 16 service aces.&nbsp;

&nbsp;Lawson senior Kayla Phipps and Mid-Buchanan sophomore Tatum Moss were chosen as well.&nbsp;For Lawson, Phipps and the Cardinals fell to East Buchanan in the Class 2 sectionals in four sets.&nbsp; Phipps had 463 digs in the season and 56 serving aces.&nbsp; In Faucett, at Mid-Buchanan, Moss and the Dragons fell to the Bulldogs as well in the Class 2 District 16 championship.&nbsp; Moss had 350 kills and a .275 hitting percentage.&nbsp; She recorded 33 service aces and had 338 digs to go with 37 blocks.

In Class 3, Bishop LeBlond seniors Katie Sego and Rilyn Conard were selected All State.&nbsp; Moving up to Class 3 this year, the Golden Eagles fell in the Class 3 District 16 semifinals to Chillicothe.&nbsp; Conard had 276 kills and 331 digs in her final year at LeBlond.&nbsp; She also recorded 55 serving aces and 17 total blocks.&nbsp; Sego had 53 service aces and 51 total blocks.&nbsp; She recorded 140 kills and 66 digs with 14 assists.

Chillicothe senior Lyla Beetsma was also named All State in Class 3.&nbsp; The Hornets fell to Savannah in the Class 3 District 16 finals after beating Bishop LeBlond.&nbsp; Beetsma put together an outstanding 2025 with 538 kills which ranked #9 in the state and had a .349 hitting percentage.&nbsp; She also had 26 service aces and 35 total blocks, to go with 464 digs and 34 assists.&nbsp;

 Missouri High School Volleyball Coaches Association names 2025 All State selections

The Northwest Missouri State University football team had 23 all-MIAA honorees led by a trio of specialty award winners in Clayton Power, Zechariah Owens and head coach John McMenamin as the league announced its annual awards.

Power was named the MIAA Defensive Lineman of Year, Owens captured the MIAA Co-Freshman of the Year award and McMenamin landed the MIAA Coach of the Year accolade. It is the second straight year Northwest has had the MIAA Lineman of the Year. 

McMenamin is the fourth different Bearcat head coach to be named the MIAA Coach of the Year.

The Bearcats landed six first-team all-MIAA performers in Kaleb McCullough (OL), Wes Merriman (OL), Dominic Myers (KR/PR), Clayton Power (DL), Carter Edwards (LB) and Shane Fredrickson (DB). Edwards was a unanimous selection at linebacker.

Northwest had five second-team all-MIAA recipients in Luke Mathews (WR), Dominic Myers (All-Purpose), Harrison Merriman (OL), Nile Schuett (DL) and Ben Einess (LB).

A quartet of Bearcats captured third-team all-MIAA status in Jordan Pigram (DL), Parker Bowen (LB), Mike Harrison (DB) and Antwon Jenkins Jr. (DB).

The Bearcats rounded out the awards with eight all-MIAA honorable mention selections in Chris Ruhnke (QB), Quincy Torry (RB), Gannon Gragert (TE), Andrew Waltke (TE), Pierce Wand (OL), Zyland Saddler-Robinson (DL), Holden Zigmant (DB) and Tommy Warner (P).

The Bearcats (9-2 overall) will travel to Searcy, Ark., to take on the region's top-seeded Harding Bisons Saturday at 1 p.m. in the first round of the 2025 NCAA Div. II Playoffs.

Several Northwest Missouri State Bearcats haul in postseason MIAA football honors

With the 2025 season now behind them fully and the offseason approaching, the Kansas City Royals have announced team awards, voted on by the Kansas City chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America.&nbsp;

St. Joseph Central alum Noah Cameron has been honored for his dazzling rookie year, being named the Bruce Rice Pitcher of the Year, making Cameron the first rookie to win the award since Brad Keller in 2018.

Cameron was given the unenviable task of making his MLB debut on the road against the Tampa Bay Rays in late April. For many rookies, a tough road start is less than ideal. However, Cameron rose to the occasion with 6 1/3 shutout innings. He took a no-hitter deep into the game before earning his first win in convincing fashion.&nbsp; He only elevated his game from there.

Cameron posted a 9-7 record with a 2.99 ERA making 10 quality starts in 24 outings. He recorded 114 strikeouts in 138 1/3 innings and held opponents to a .214 batting average.&nbsp; &nbsp;The Royals needed Cameron due to multiple injuries in the starting rotation.&nbsp; Cameron finished fourth-place&nbsp; in AL Rookie of the Year voting, making him an integral part of the starting rotation heading into 2026.

The Bruce Rice Pitcher of the Year Award is named after the late Kansas City-area sportscaster.

Cameron was joined on the Royals awards by shortstop Bobby Witt Jr, honored with the Les Milgram Player of the Year award for a fourth consecutive season, and third baseman Maikel Garcia who was named the teams Joe Burke Special Achievement award winner.&nbsp;

Noah Cameron named Royals pitcher of the year after dazzling rookie campaign

 Wil Lutz lined up for a 35-yard field goal to beat the Chiefs on Sunday and couldn't help but think back to last year at Kansas City, when his kick was blocked as time expired in the same situation.&nbsp; 

This time, Lutz nailed the game-winner, his fifth field goal of the day, pushing the Denver Broncos past the Chiefs 22-19 for their eighth straight victory.&nbsp; Broncos coach Sean Payton said last November's 16-14 heartbreaker at Arrowhead Stadium galvanized his team, which went on a 5-2 run to reach the playoffs, and Lutz concurred.

The Broncos all but buried the Chiefs in the AFC West, which Kansas City has won every year since 2016. Chiefs coach Andy Reid fell to 27-5 following a bye week, counting the playoffs and his time with Philadelphia.

Bo Nix set up the game-winning kick with a 32-yard strike to Troy Franklin that got Denver to the Kansas City 15 with under a minute remaining.

After Lutz hit a 38 yard field goal to give Denver a three point advantage, Patrick Mahomes gave Kansas City its only lead on a 21-yard touchdown toss to Travis Kelce, marking the veteran tight end's 84th career touchdown, one more than previous Chiefs franchise record-holder Priest Holmes. That put the Chiefs up 19-16, but Harrison Butker's extra point was blocked by Frank Crum.&nbsp; The Broncos tied it at 19-all on Lutz's 54-yarder with 4:10 remaining.

Denver's defense forced Kansas City to go three-and-out when Ja'Quan McMillian sacked Mahomes on third-and-10 from the Chiefs 36. That was the second sack by McMillian, who also had six tackles, including two for loss, two quarterback hits, a pass breakup and an interception.&nbsp; 

The Broncos chewed up the final 2:59 by driving 58 yards in 10 plays. They won their 11th straight game at Empower Field, where they haven't lost since October 2024, and they beat the Chiefs on their home turf for the third consecutive time.

The teams went into halftime tied at six, Lutz hitting field goals of 29 and 24 yards in the first quarter, and Harrison Butker knocking through a 31 yard kick in the first quarter and another from the same distance late in the second quarter.&nbsp;

Jaleel McLaughlin, playing in place of injured starter J.K. Dobbins, who underwent season-ending foot surgery last week, bullied his way in from four yards out to break the tie late in the third quarter and then the Chiefs seized the momentum when Mahomes found Tyquan Thornton for a 61-yard gain to the Denver 11. 

That set up Kareem Hunt's two yard touchdown run that tied it at 13. That was Kansas City's first touchdown at Empower Field in 11 quarters.

Mahomes was 29 of 45 passing for 276 yards with one touchdown and one interception.&nbsp; Hunt rushed 13 times for 59 yards with a score.&nbsp; Kelce led all receivers with nine catches for 91 yards and a touchdown, while Hollywood Brown had four catches for 40 yards.

Up next Kansas City (5-5) host the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.&nbsp; Kickoff is at noon with pregame at 11am on KFEQ (680AM/95.3FM) and Q Country (92.7FM).

Ahmad Hardy had a career-best 300 yards rushing and three touchdowns on 25 carries, and Toriano Pride Jr. had a 62-yard fumble return and pick six to help Missouri beat Mississippi State 49-27.

The Bulldogs answered the score, cutting the lead back to one possession with a two yard run by quarterback Blake Shapen.&nbsp; On the next drive, Zollers threw an interception, but after the turnover the Missouri defense stepped up.&nbsp; Mississippi State reached the Missouri two on a 16-play drive, but Ethan Myers’ low snap on a 25-yard field-goal attempt ricocheted off holder Marlon Hauck’s left knee. Pride recovered the fumble and returned it 62 yards to the Bulldogs’ 23 yard line with 5:03 remaining in the second quarter.

After the fumble recovery, Hardy scored his first touchdown of the game, rushing in from 10 yards out to cap a five play drive.&nbsp; The Tigers had one more chance to score, but the kicking troubles continued for Missouri and Oliver Robbins attempt clanked off the upright, sending the teams to the locker rooms with the Tigers holding a 21-10 lead at the halftime break.

In the second half, Trevion Williams stripped the ball from Hardy, and Malick Sylla recovered it near midfield with about a minute into the third quarter. Ten plays later, Shapen scored his second rushing touchdown of the game from three yards out to cut Missouri’s lead to 21-17.&nbsp; From there, it was all Missouri.&nbsp; After back to back drives ended with punts, the Tigers needed just two plays for Hardy to make a cut back and rush 72 yards to the endzone for his second touchdown of the game.

On the next drive for Mississippi State, Pride returned an interception 19 yards for a touchdown to give Missouri its largest lead of the night at 35-17 with 4:39 to play in the third quarter.&nbsp; The Bulldogs answered the defensive touchdown with a three yard touchdown pass from Kamario Taylor to Seydou Traore.&nbsp; The next two drives ended with punts to go into the fourth quarter.

The Tigers punted to open the final quarter, but the defense was on it again to add to their lead, this time with a pick six from Marvin Burks Jr off a tipped pass, taking the ball 28 yards for the score.&nbsp; &nbsp; The Bulldogs turned the ball over on downs, and in one play&nbsp;Hardy raced into the end zone from 43 yards out with 11:11 remaining in the fourth quarter to shatter his previous career-high of 250 rushing yards and give him his third career three touchdown game.&nbsp; Mississippi State ended the scoring with a 41 yard field goal from Ferrie with 5:51 remaining in the game.

&nbsp;Zollers, making his second career start, was 8-of-15 passing for 112 yards and two touchdowns and threw an interception in his first career win.&nbsp; Kevin Coleman Jr led the receivers with four catches for 41 yards.&nbsp; Mizzou did lose a couple defensive players in the matchup.&nbsp; Tigers defensive end Nate Johnson was ejected for targeting with 8:56 remaining in the first quarter after delivering a helmet-to-helmet hit on Shapen, and linebacker Jeremiah Trotter was ejected for the same offense with 8:52 remaining in the second quarter.

Tough season for MoWest ends with crushing defeat against UCO

Missouri Western State University football ended the 2025 season with a 50-14 loss to Central Oklahoma on Senior Day at Spratt Stadium.

MoWest struggled with turnovers throughout the game. Trailing only 7-3 late in the first quarter after a 36 yard rushing touchdown by Dev Mathews and a 51 yard field goal by Latrell Armstrong, MoWest drove into the red zone and a pass from Griffons quarterback Brendan Berwald was intercepted in the end zone by David Williams, and the Bronchos went 80 yards on four plays on the ensuing drive, scoring with a 35 yard run by Mathews to lead 14-3 with 14:19 left in the second quarter.

The Bronchos scored 14 points in the last 1:18 of the first half to lead, both on passes from Jett Huff to Dominique Dunn with a two yard strike and a 14 yard pass, to hold a 28-3 at the halftime break.&nbsp; MoWest got the ball to start the second half, and drove 85 yards on nine plays. The drive ended with a 10-yard touchdown pass from Berwald to senior running back Jayden Williams.

But, the Griffons never found momentum on offense again, with three turnovers in the second half and five total on the day. UCO scored 20 points off of Griffon giveaways, and had five drives that started in Griffon territory.&nbsp; The Bronchos scored 26 unanswered points to end the game.

Huff connected with Dunn for a third time in the game on a seven yard pass and Joseph Kim knocked through a field goal in the third quarter.&nbsp; In the fourth quarter, with the game well in hand, Mathews ran in for a third time in the game, Kim hit a 50 yard field goal, and Marquise Harris added a two yard rushing score

Berwald, in his first start of the season and seventh of his MoWest career, went 18–of-35 for 112 yards, a touchdown and three picks. Kody Kirk was 1-of-2 for 17 yards and a pick.&nbsp; Brandon Hall, in his 49th and final game, toted the rock 13 times for 68 yards, ending his career with 3,004 rushing yards. Hall leaves MoWest as one of only three running backs to rush for 3,000-plus yards in his career, joining Michael Hill and Raphael Spencer.

Bryce Marcus III led the receivers with four catches for 30 yards.&nbsp;Armstrong set a career-high with his 50-yard field goal in the first quarter.

The Griffons will open the 2026 season on Thursday, August 27 at home vs. Augustana. Kickoff time is to be determined. The entire 2026 schedule will be released at a later date.

Bearcats share MIAA title after falling to Pitt State in Kansas City

The Northwest Missouri State Bearcats could not overcome four first half fumbles, falling to the Pittsburgh State Gorillas 27-14 at Children's Mercy Park on Saturday.&nbsp;

#3 Ravens close dominant season earning Heart South championship

The Benedictine Raven football team completed a perfect conference season, defeating MidAmerica Nazarene 52-7.&nbsp; With the win, the #3 Ravens secure their first outright conference championship since 2022. The Ravens shared the conference championship with MNU and Baker University in 2023 and 2024.

The Ravens couldn't have scripted a better first half against the Pioneers. The defense stood strong on the opening drive to force a Pioneers punt. On the Ravens first offensive play, Jackson Dooley connected with Titan Osburn for a 45-yard gain and the drive was capped off by a Xavier Ugorji touchdown run.&nbsp; MidAmerica Nazarene answered with a long drive, but Isaiah Hasten intercepted a pass at the three yard line and returned it 59 yards into Pioneers territory. The offense cashed in on the turnover as Dooley found Tanner Zimmerman for a three yard touchdown to give the Ravens a 14-0 lead.

In the second quarter, Ugorji scored again on a 23-yard rush to extend the lead. After a Pioneers punt, Tyler Watson made an acrobatic catch at the Pioneers one yard line, and then plunged in for a rushing touchdown to give the Ravens a four possession lead late in the first half.&nbsp; Peyton Jobe was next in line for an interception,&nbsp; the Ravens third of the half after Se'Korrey Thomas also had a pick, which led to a 29-yard field goal by Christian Klobe, giving the Ravens a 31-0 lead at the halftime break.

The strong performance carried into the second half. After the Pioneers scored their only touchdown of the game early in the third quarter, a 24 yard pass from Drew Miller to Aiyo'n Carter, the Ravens closed out the game with 21-straight points.&nbsp; The first of those three touchdowns coming after the Ravens defense forced a turnover on downs at the MidAmerica Nazarene 43 yard line. On the Ravens first offensive play, Dooley found Osburn for a 43 yard touchdown strike.

In the fourth quarter, Xiomar Hernandez and Robbie Sharp each scored a rushing touchdown, Hernandez putting it in from two yards out and Sharp scoring from three yards away, to put the finishing touches on the 45-point win.

Dooley finished with 265 yards through the air and two touchdown passes on 19 of 28 passing. Osburn snagged seven passes for 147 yards and a touchdown to lead Raven receivers. The rushing attack grinded to another 200-yard game as Ugorji had 83 yards and two scores. Ugorji eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark with Saturday's output, the first Ravens rusher to do so since Marquis Stewart in 2019.

The win gives Benedictine (10-1, 6-0 Heart South) an automatic entry into the NAIA Football Championship Series. The Ravens will find out their seed during the selection show at 6 p.m. on Sunday.&nbsp;

W is a W: K State gets give takeaways, but only 14 points over OK State

Kansas State forced five turnovers in a 14-6 win over Oklahoma State.&nbsp; All of the Wildcats' points came off of those turnovers.

The offense wasn't so good. Kansas State, which had averaged 34.2 points in its previous five games, was held to 284 yards. Despite that, the Wildcats held on for their third win in four games.&nbsp; Kansas State, a 19 1/2-point favorite according to , didn't care about the margin of victory. Klieman lost his previous three trips to Oklahoma State as the Wildcats' coach.

Kansas State did not score until eight minutes into the second quarter. The Wildcats got a first down by penalty after it appeared the Cowboys stopped them on a fourth-and-1, and Jayce Brown caught a 34-yard touchdown pass from Johnson on the next play. The extra point put Kansas State up 7-6 — a score that held up at halftime.&nbsp; Oklahoma State got two 47 yard field goals from Logan Ward for their points, one in the first quarter and the other in the second.

An interception by Oklahoma State's Parker Robertson early in the third quarter set the Cowboys up deep in Kansas State territory. But Flores fumbled when stripped by Cody Stufflebean, and Kansas State's Zashon Rich recovered to preserve Kansas State's lead.

Kansas State's Joe Jackson ran 15 yards for a touchdown on a fourth-and-1 play to put the Wildcats up 14-6 in the fourth quarter. The Wildcats converted two fourth downs on the drive.

Avery Johnson passed for 177 yards on 15 of 28 passing with a touchdown and an interception while Jackson added 69 yards rushing and a touchdown for the Wildcats who need one more win to become bowl eligible.&nbsp; Brown caught three passes for 82 yards and a score to lead the receivers

CFB: Hardy runs amuck for Tigers, Ravens dominant, KU, K State victorious

The Northwest Missouri State University football team fell to the Pittsburgh State Gorillas at Children's Mercy Park in Kansas City, losing 27-14 and settling for a shared regular season MIAA title.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Despite the Bearcats outgaining the Gorillas in both rushing and passing yards, four first half fumbles were to much to overcome for Northwest. 

Head Coach John McMenamin gave credit to Pittsburgh State and says they just played a better game than Northwest

"I told our guys it's a good spot to be in, what I'm saying is they walked out conference champs, they're walking in conference champs, they're going to be a playoff team and that's all we can ask for," McMenamin says in his postgame press conference.&nbsp; "It didn't go our way today, but I think there's some things we can fix to play, and anytime you lose four fumbles it's not a good recipe for winning."

A strong offensive drive from the Bearcats, highlighted by a 65 yard run from Quincy Torry, opened the game to lead to a quick lead for Northwest as&nbsp;Zechariah Owens threw a three yard touchdown pass to Erwin Nash.&nbsp; On the ensuing Pitt State drive, the Bearcats forced a punt, but their first fumble of the game gave the ball right back to the Gorillas, allowing them to tie up the game.&nbsp;

Jackson Berry threw a 14 yard touchdown pass in the front corner of the endzone to Jaelon Travis.&nbsp; Then, on the next drive Pittsburgh State forced Owens to fumble, and then took advantage to take the lead, Berry throwing a 78 yard touchdown pass to TyJuan Atkins Jr, despite pressure from Carter Edwards, to go ahead 14-7.

On the ensuing kickoff, the third fumble of the half gave the ball back to Pittsburgh State, Cooper Warren fumbling the kickoff, but this time the Bearcats defense stepped up to force a punt, getting the ball back into their offenses hands.&nbsp; Northwest though was unable to do anything with it and had to punt it right back to start the second quarter.&nbsp;

Northwest's special teams unit prevented the Gorillas from scoring next, Edwards blocking a 47 yard field goal attempt, but again the Bearcats were forced to punt, and after getting the ball back on a Pittsburgh State punt, the fourth fumble extended the lead more, Madixx Morriss fumbling a reception from Chris Ruhnke, and freshman Quintin Kirby taking the ball 71 yards to the house for a 21-7 lead.&nbsp;

Near the end of the first half, Gorillas kicker Austin Schmitt hit a 28 yard field goal.&nbsp; Northwest attempted to drive the field for a late score in the half, but a sack on Ruhnke would wind down the remaining time of the first half and Pittsburgh State took a 24-7 lead into the halftime break.&nbsp;

Northwest could never overcome the four first half fumbles,&nbsp;McMenamin saying there's a difference between getting your butt kicked and self sabotage.

"We contributed to much to their victory," McMenamin says.&nbsp; "And we needed to play more secure football and I think all our guys know that they can, and so it's picking their heads up, we'll come back to work there's a formula for it, and we put it to work today but it just didn't work out."

The third quarter flew by with both defenses holding each other scoreless, the Bearcats finally breaking back onto the scoreboard midway into the final quarter with a five yard pass from Ruhnke to Gannon Gragert, just Gragert's second touchdown catch of the season.&nbsp; But, it was to little, to late, Pitt State consuming almost five minutes of clock, with Schmitt hitting a 30 yard field goal to seal the game.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Ruhnke was 20 for 30 through the air for 202 yards with one touchdown, adding 35 rushing yards.&nbsp; Owens was a perfect 5 for 5 with one touchdown pass and 40 yards through the air, running for 13 yards.&nbsp; Torry rushed eight times for 101 yards.&nbsp; Nash had seven catches for 81 yards and a score.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Northwest finishes the regular season 9-2, 8-1 in the MIAA. They'll now turn their attention to the playoffs with the NCAA DII Selection Show coming up on Sunday at 5pm.

High School Football District Championship and Sectionals schedule for Nov. 14th

Kansas City Royals rookie pitcher and St. Joseph's Noah Cameron was recognized for his outstanding season as both the American and National League Rookie of the Year was announced on Monday.&nbsp; &nbsp;

On the AL side, the A's Nick Kurtz was unanimously voted first overall to win the award, while in the NL it was Atlanta Braves catcher Drake Baldwin becoming the 10th catcher to win the award since it was first presented in 1947, and the first catcher to win the award since 2010.

Kurtz is the first Athletic to win Rookie of the Year since right-hander Andrew Bailey in 2009, and the first A’s position player to take home the award since Bobby Crosby.&nbsp;&nbsp;A's shortstop Jacob Wilson was second in the AL, the duo of Kurtz and Wilson&nbsp;becoming just the ninth pair of rookie teammates to finish first and second in Rookie of the Year voting, and the first pair of position player teammates to do so since Jerome Walton and Dwight Smith of the 1989 Cubs.&nbsp;

Boston Red Sox outfielder Roman Anthony the third finalist for the award finished in third.&nbsp; Cameron earned enough votes to finish fourth in voting, with 54 total points, garnering three second place votes, seven third place votes, eight fourth place votes, and five fifth place votes.&nbsp;&nbsp;The system rewards seven points for first place, four for second place, three for third place, two for fourth place, and one for fifth place.

Meanwhile on the NL side,&nbsp;Runner-up Chicago Cubs pitcher Cade Horton finished second, receiving nine first place votes. Brewers third baseman Caleb Durbin was the only other finalist for this honor.&nbsp;

Royals Noah Cameron recognized for outstanding rookie season

The Kansas City Royals acquired outfielder Kameron Misner from the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday for a player to be named later or cash considerations.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Tampa Bay designated Misner for assignment last week.&nbsp; Misner is a Poplar Bluff, Mo., native and attended the University of Missouri from 2016 to 2019. He was originally selected by the Royals in the 33rd round of the 2016 Draft out of Poplar Bluff High School, but he elected to go to college and turned into a first-round pick, drafted 35th overall by the Marlins in 2019.&nbsp; Misner was acquired by the Rays after the 2021 season in a trade that sent Joey Wendle to Miami.

&nbsp;Misner made his big league debut on August 2nd of last season and has only 79 career games under his belt. He has a .203/.260/.325 career slash line, with nine doubles, one triple, five homers and eight stolen bases. He’s more known for his defense, which is elite in center field thanks to good speed and a strong arm. Despite limited playing time, he still recorded +5 in run value and +3 outs above average in the outfield, according to Statcast.

Misner played in 71 games with Tampa Bay in 2025 and hit .213 with a .618 OPS. He made the Opening Day roster this past season for the first time in his career and, on Opening Day, he entered as a defensive replacement in the eighth inning only to find himself making history in the ninth when he hit a walk-off home run. He became the first player in Major League history to hit his first career home run in walk-off fashion on Opening Day.

 </figure>By MATT PIKEThe Kansas City Royals acquired outfielder Kameron Misner from the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday for a player to be named later or cash considerations.&nbsp;&nbsp;Tampa Bay designated Misner for assignment last week.&nbsp; Misner is a Poplar Bluff, Mo., native and attended the University of Missouri from 2016 to 2019. He was originally selected by the Royals in the 33rd round of the 2016 Draft out of Poplar Bluff High School, but he elected to go to college and turned into a first-round pick, drafted 35th overall by the Marlins in 2019.&nbsp; Misner was acquired by the Rays after the 2021 season in a trade that sent Joey Wendle to Miami.&nbsp;Misner made his big league debut on August 2nd of last season and has only 79 career games under his belt. He has a .203/.260/.325 career slash line, with nine doubles, one triple, five homers and eight stolen bases. He’s more known for his defense, which is elite in center field thanks to good speed and a strong arm. Despite limited playing time, he still recorded +5 in run value and +3 outs above average in the outfield, according to Statcast.Misner played in 71 games with Tampa Bay in 2025 and hit .213 with a .618 OPS. He made the Opening Day roster this past season for the first time in his career and, on Opening Day, he entered as a defensive replacement in the eighth inning only to find himself making history in the ninth when he hit a walk-off home run. Bearcats crush Griffons in rivalry matchup to claim MIAA

#14 Northwest Missouri State University clinched its 32nd MIAA regular season title with a 38-7 manhandling of the Missouri Western State University Griffons at Bearcat Stadium, marking Northwest's 12th consecutive win over Missouri Western and its ninth straight win this season.

After the Bearcats began the game by deferring possession, allowing the Griffons to start with the ball, MoWest capitalized on its opening drive, advancing 75 yards on seven plays, ending with a 19-yard touchdown pass from Kane Donovan to Damir Abdullah.&nbsp; Northwest responded with a methodical 12-play drive spanning 55 yards, but managed only a 38-yard field goal by Mo Alwaely to cut the deficit to 7-3.&nbsp;

With the Bearcats holding possession to open the second quarter Northwest extended its lead. Chris Ruhnke connected with Dominic Myers for a six yard touchdown pass to give the Bearcats the lead. Momentum continued after Northwest forced a MoWest punt, as Jackson Miller capped a drive with his first career rushing touchdown, a 10-yard run, pushing the lead to 17-7.&nbsp;

The Bearcats defense made a pivotal stop, with Jordan Pigram intercepting a pass for his first career interception, setting up another scoring opportunity. The takeaway led to Luke Mathews securing a five yard touchdown reception from Ruhnke to continue pushing the lead even more. The defense maintained pressure, ending the period with a sack by Clayton Power, ensuring a strong finish to the first half, leading 24-7 at the break.&nbsp; Northwest has won 93 consecutive games when leading at the half. Head coach John McMenamin is 15-0 when leading at the half, including a 9-0 mark at Northwest.

To start the third quarter, Northwest extended its lead once again with a 75-yard drive that culminated in a 19-yard touchdown pass from Ruhnke to Gatlin Samuel.&nbsp; The Bearcats capitalized on strong defensive plays, including a sack by Power that pushed MoWest back, leading to a punt. Northwest added their final score of the game in the quarter with Ruhnke's&nbsp; two yard touchdown run.

Ruhnke completed 20 of 39 passes for 208 yards and three touchdowns, while also rushing for a career-high 63 yards and one touchdown on eight carries. Miller contributed 71 rushing yards on 13 attempts and added a touchdown. Myers rushed 11 times for 80 yards.&nbsp; Samuel had a single reception for 19 yards, resulting in a touchdown.&nbsp; Erwin Nash had three catches for 45 yards while T.J Williams-Bey had four catches for 35 yards.

Donovan completed 6-of-15 passes for 95 yards and an interception. Brendan Berwald completed 5-of-10 passes for 45 yards. He rushed for 10 yards as well.&nbsp; Abdullah finished with 59 yards receiving and the score on two catches. Crew Myers had a team-best four catches for 34 yards. Brandon Hall rushed 12 times for 25 yards.

Up next, Northwest Missouri State (9-1, 8-0 MIAA) will face Pittsburg State on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Children's Mercy Park.&nbsp; Meanwhile, Missouri Western (3-7, 2-6 MIAA) returns home&nbsp;to face Central Oklahoma on Senior Day. Kickoff on Saturday is set for 2 p.m.

Zollers overwhelmed by Aggies defense as Mizzou playoff hopes dim

 Marcel Reed threw for 221 yards and two touchdowns, Texas A&amp;M's hounding defense made for a forgettable first start for Missouri quarterback Matt Zollers, and the #3Aggies beat the #22 Tigers 38-17 to remain undefeated.

Rueben Owens II added 102 yards rushing and a pair of clinching touchdown runs in the fourth quarter, as the Aggies continued their best start since 1992 with their third consecutive victory over Missouri.

Missouri had been in every game this season, including close losses to #4 Alabama and #15 Vanderbilt. But losing Beau Pribula to a season-ending injury against the Commodores left the 19-year-old Matt Zollers to make his first start against the Aggies.&nbsp; It was a predictably tough task.

The first true freshman to start for Missouri since Drew Lock a decade ago, Zollers spent most of the game simply trying to stay upright. And on the rare occasion that he had time to throw, Zollers either overshot hits targets or threw it into the turf, resulting in a humbling halftime line: 3 of 11 for 31 yards, two sacks and a fumble that was nearly returned for a touchdown.

In fact, Zollers' fumble late in the first half may have been the tipping point in the game.&nbsp; Texas A&amp;M led 7-0 after a four yard touchdown catch by Ashton Bethel-Roman from Reed late in the first quarter, and was trying to force a punt before the break. Zollers was blitzed by Daymion Sanford, who knocked the ball out of his hands and into the arms of safety Dalton Brooks, whose return set up EJ Smith's one yard touchdown plunge two plays later, putting Texas A&amp;M up 14-0 at the halftime break.

The Aggies kept the momentum going after halftime. Missouri quickly went three-and-out, and Reed zipped a screen pass to KC Concepcion, who took advantage of the space vacated by a blitzing safety to run nearly untouched 48 yards for the score.&nbsp; The Tigers tried to make it a game in the third quarter, when Jamal Roberts finally reached the end zone on a four yard touchdown run. But after forcing the Aggies into fourth down near midfield, they executed a perfect punt fake, leading to a field goal and a 24-7 lead, which they carried into the final quarter

Owens eventually put the game away for Texas A&amp;M with his two touchdown runs in the fourth quarter, the first coming in response to a 49 yard field goal by Oliver Robbins, a 57 yard run.&nbsp; Ahmad Hardy did answer with a 45 yard rushing touchdown of his own, but Owens second touchdown from one yard out put the game away.

Zollers was just 7 of 22 for 77 yards, despite getting plenty of help from his rushing attack.&nbsp; Roberts ran for 110 yards and a touchdown, and Hardy added 109 yards and another score, as the Tigers piled up 207 yards on the ground.&nbsp; True freshman Donovan Olugbode had three catches for 74 yards to be the leading receiver.

Next, Missouri (6-3, 2-3 SEC) hosts Mississippi State on Saturday.&nbsp; Kickoff is at 6:45 pm with pregame coverage starting at 5:45 on KFEQ (680AM/95.3FM).

Ravens use strong ground game, defensive effort in road win over Baker

The #3 Benedictine Ravens picked up a big road win on Saturday, being both strong on the ground and defensively, winning 31-10 at the (RV) Baker University Wildcats.

After Baker started the scoring late in the first quarter on a one yard rushing touchdown by Gabe Martin, Benedictine answered in the second quarter first with a 44 yard field goal by Christian Klobe early, and then near the end of the first half eventually taking the lead on a two yard touchdown pass from Jackson Dooley to Tanner Zimmerman, giving the Ravens a 10-7 lead at the halftime break.

Benedictine turned a three point halftime lead into a 24-point lead on the strength of long scoring drives in the second half. Dalton Witherspoon's one yard plunge late in the third quarter put the Ravens up 17-7, which capped off a 92-yard drive.&nbsp; Then, in the fourth quarter, the Ravens put together a 13-play, 97-yard drive that milked 8:20 off the clock and was punctuated with a five yard Xavier Ugorji touchdown run.

The Wildcats answered with a field goal two minutes later, but the Ravens offense salted away the game with another Ugorji touchdown run, this time from 19 yards away, eating all but 46 seconds off the clock to close out the Ravens 21-point win.

Ugorji finished the game with 196 yards on the ground and Witherspoon added another 96 yards as the Ravens rushed for 306 yards as a team. Jackson Dooley added 119 yards through the air, on 8-of-17 passing with a touchdown, with Titan Osburn catching four passes for 52 yards.

Benedictine (9-1, 5-0 Heart South) will take on (RV) MidAmerica Nazarene University at 1 p.m. on Saturday at home with a chance to claim an outright conference championship.

Arizona rally hands Kansas shocking last second loss on the road

 Quincy Craig scored his second touchdown of the game on a 24-yard run with 39 seconds left in regulation and Arizona rallied to beat Kansas 24-20.&nbsp; Coming off a blowout win over Colorado, the Wildcats had a hard time moving the ball against a Jayhawks defense that entered the game ranked 12th in the Big 12.

Noah Fifita threw an early touchdown pass, a 16 yard pass to Sam Olson for the opening score of the game, but was sacked five times and nearly had three passes intercepted before rallying Arizona to become bowl eligible.

Jalon Daniels took his two-way turn on Kansas' next two drives. Daniels first scored on a one yard keeper set up by a 14-yard run, then, after a Wildcats punt, hit Emmanuel Henderson Jr. in stride for a 24-yard touchdown pass to give the Jayhawks the lead.&nbsp; That lead was extended by midway through the second quarter when Laith Marjan hit a 46 yard field goal giving Kansas a two score lead.

The Jayhawks appeared to be headed to a 24-7 halftime lead when Leroy Harris III returned an interception 77 yards for a touchdown. Instead, it came back when cornerback Jalen Todd was called for holding away from the play.&nbsp; Craig scored on an eight yard touchdown two plays later by reaching the ball to the pylon, pulling Arizona within 17-14 at the halftime break.

The defenses took over in the second half.&nbsp; Kansas had one interception overturned upon review and Syeed Gibbs had another potential pick pass through his hands. Both teams exchanged field goals in the third quarter, Arizona's&nbsp;Michael Salgado-Medina hitting 41 yard field goal which Marjan answered with a 50 yard field goal.&nbsp;

Then, late in the fourth quarter, after Marjan pushed a 30-yard field goal wide right, his first miss in 15 attempts this season, the Wildcats took over at their own 20 with 2:39 left. Arizona moved quickly down the field and Craig burst through a big hole up the middle for the go-ahead score.

&nbsp;Daniels threw for 199 yards and a touchdown, going 15-of-29 through the air, adding 74 yards and another score rushing. His desperation attempt bounded out of the end zone as time expired.&nbsp; Daniel Hishaw Jr rushed 18 times for 67 yards.&nbsp; Henderson Jr. had five catches for 65 yards and a touchdown.

Next, Kansas (5-5, 3-4 Big 12) plays at Iowa State on Nov. 22.

Lateef's impressive start for injured Raiola leads Nebraska to win

 TJ Lateef was 13 for 15 for 205 yards and three touchdown passes in his first collegiate start, Emmett Johnson went over 100 yards rushing and receiving, and Nebraska defeated UCLA 28-21 for its first win in Pasadena since 1993.

Playing at the Rose Bowl 25 miles from his hometown of Compton, Lateef took over from Dylan Raiola, who is out for the rest of the season with a lower right leg injury he sustained in a 21-17 loss to Southern California last week. Lateef played the final four possessions against the Trojans.

As the first true freshman to start for Nebraska since 1950, Lateef directed the Cornhuskers to scores on their first four possessions for a 27-7 lead.&nbsp; Jacory Barney Jr. caught Lateef's two yard pass on the right side pylon, which bent over, for Nebraska's first touchdown after a video review.

The Bruins answered the score with a one yard touchdown run by Jalen Berger, but Lateef hit Johnson with a pass at the Nebraska 41 and Johnson rumbled 56 yards down the left sideline past his own bench for the score on the very next drive to retake the lead. Johnson's one yard touchdown run capped the Cornhuskers' scoring in the first half for a 21-7 lead at the halftime break.

Out of the halftime break, Nebraska extended its lead to open the third on Johnson's 40-yard catch from Lateef for his second long touchdown reception of the game.&nbsp; Nico Iamaleava hit Anthony Woods with a 45-yard touchdown pass that helped UCLA cut into the Corhuskers lead in the third. The Bruins closed the game to one score on Iamaleava’s nine yard scoring pass to Anthony Frias II with 4:54 remaining in the game on a drive that began at their&nbsp; three yard line.

Already the first 1,000-yard rusher at Nebraska since 2018, Johnson had 28 carries for 129 yards and ran for one TD. He had three catches for 103 yards and two TDs.&nbsp; Dane Key had three catches for 46 yards, Nyziah Hunter had three catches for 37 yards, and Barney Jr had three catches for 19 yards with a score.

Next, Nebraska (7-4, 4-3 Big Ten) has a bye week before visiting Penn State on Nov. 22 in Rhule's return to his alma mater.

 </figure>The #3 Benedictine Ravens picked up a big road win on Saturday, being both strong on the ground and defensively, winning 31-10 at the (RV) Baker University Wildcats.After Baker started the scoring late in the first quarter on a one yard rushing touchdown by Gabe Martin, Benedictine answered in the second quarter first with a 44 yard field goal by Christian Klobe early, and then near the end of the first half eventually taking the lead on a two yard touchdown pass from Jackson Dooley to Tanner Zimmerman, giving the Ravens a 10-7 lead at the halftime break.Benedictine turned a three point halftime lead into a 24-point lead on the strength of long scoring drives in the second half. Dalton Witherspoon's one yard plunge late in the third quarter put the Ravens up 17-7, which capped off a 92-yard drive.&nbsp; Then, in the fourth quarter, the Ravens put together a 13-play, 97-yard drive that milked 8:20 off the clock and was punctuated with a five yard Xavier Ugorji touchdown run.The Wildcats answered with a field goal two minutes later, but the Ravens offense salted away the game with another Ugorji touchdown run, this time from 19 yards away, eating all but 46 seconds off the clock to close out the Ravens 21-point win.Ugorji finished the game with 196 yards on the ground and Witherspoon added another 96 yards as the Ravens rushed for 306 yards as a team. After being named the American League Gold Glove winner at shortstop on Sunday, Witt Jr won his second consecutive American League Silver Slugger award on Friday, and on the same night was announced by Rawlings as the winner of the American League Platinum Glove award, the first of his career.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Witt Jr. was eligible for the Platinum Glove after winning his second consecutive Gold Glove award.&nbsp; He&nbsp; co-led all MLB players, regardless of position, in Statcast Outs Above Average, with +24, tied with Cubs center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong, demonstrating his tremendous range at shortstop. Since 2023, no player has racked up more OAA than Witt’s +54.

It's now back-to-back years that Witt Jr has brought home the Silver Slugger award.&nbsp; Despite it being a down year for him, the 25 year old star shortstop still&nbsp;hit .295 with 23 home runs, 38 stolen bases and an .852 OPS.&nbsp; He joins Salvador Perez, George Brett and Willie Wilson as the only Royals players to win multiple Silver Slugger Awards.

Maikel Garcia, Perez, and Vinnie Pasquantino were also nominated as finalists for the award.&nbsp; Garcia lost at the utility position to Detroit's&nbsp;Zach McKinstry, Perez lost to Seattle's&nbsp;Cal Raleigh who led the majors with 60 home runs, while Pasquantino lost to A's rookie&nbsp;Nick Kurtz who hit 36 home runs in his debut season.&nbsp;

On the National League side the lone St. Louis Cardinal named a finalist for the Silver Slugger,&nbsp;Alec Burleson, won at the utility position.&nbsp; Burleson&nbsp;batted .290 with 18 home runs, 69 RBIs and an .801 OPS. He's the Cardinals' first Silver Slugger Award winner since Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado in 2022.

Awards continue to pour in for Royals SS Bobby Witt Jr.

The Kansas City Chiefs saw their struggles against the Buffalo Bills in the regular season continue on Sunday afternoon, falling 28-21 on the road in what has become a classic out of conference rivalry over the years between the two.&nbsp;

After Josh Allen spent much of the past week downplaying Buffalo’s showdown against Kansas City, the Bills quarterback revealed there was more to the rivalry than he let on.&nbsp; Turns out beating the Chiefs, a team that has blocked Allen and the Bills’ path to the Super Bowl for much of the past five years, meant something more to Allen.&nbsp;

The Chiefs struggled against the Bills tight ends throughout the matchup, and it showed on the opening drive as Buffalo opened the scoring with&nbsp;Allen connecting on a 23-yard touchdown pass to Dalton Kincaid.&nbsp;&nbsp;Kincaid led Buffalo with 101 yards receiving and James Cook had 114 yards rushing.

Kansas City did work to build a lead that they held momentarily following the Kincaid touchdown.&nbsp; Just after the start of the second quarter, the Chiefs tied up the game, running a play they ran last week against the Washington Commanders, but this time rather than coming up short Rashee Rice rumbled across the goal line for the first rushing touchdown of his career to tie the game.&nbsp; One drive later, Kansas City took the lead on a 46 yard field goal by Harrison Butker.&nbsp;&nbsp;

After the Chiefs built the 10-7 lead though, the Bills responded by scoring touchdowns on their next two possessions.&nbsp;&nbsp;Ty Johnson capped a five-play 70-yard drive with a three yard run for the go-ahead score.&nbsp; After the Chiefs gave the ball up on downs at Buffalo’s 40 when Cole Bishop broke up a pass attempt to Rice on 4th and 3. Allen then marched Buffalo on a seven-play, 60-yard drive that he capped with the first of two one yard touchdown runs.&nbsp; Near the end of the first half, Butker knocked through a 19 yard field goal, making it 21-13 at the halftime break.

Getting the ball to start the second half, Kansas City started with a three and out, and three consecutive drives ended with punts, before the Bills added another touchdown to extend the lead, Allen scoring his second one yard touchdown run for the only score of the third quarter.&nbsp; An 11 play drive by the Chiefs carried into the fourth quarter, and Kansas City made the game a one score game as Kareem Hunt punched his way into the endzone from two yards out.&nbsp; Patrick Mahomes found Travis Kelce for the two point conversion to make it 28-21.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The Bills' defense played a major role in harassing Mahomes, who was sacked three times and hit 15 more.&nbsp; Mahomes threw an interception that made it looked like the Bills were poised to win the game late in the fourth, but&nbsp;Matt Prater’s 52-yard field goal attempt for the Bills struck the right upright, giving the Chiefs one more chance.&nbsp;&nbsp;The game was decided in the final 17 seconds, when Mahomes threw three straight incompletions from Buffalo’s 40. The last throw fell short of the end zone and was batted down by rookie Maxwell Hairston, who earlier intercepted Mahomes.

Mahomes finished with his worst completion percentage, 44.1%, while going 15 of 34 for 250 yards and an interception. The two-time NFL MVP had previously never finished a regular-season game completing fewer than 50% of his passes over his nine-year career.&nbsp; Hunt rushed 11 times for 49 yards and a touchdown.&nbsp; Rice had four catches for 80 yards as the leading receiver.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Next Kansas City has a bye week before they travel to play the Denver Broncos on Nov. 16.

Chiefs regular season woes continue against Bills in 28-21 loss

The 2025 Rawlings Gold Glove Award winners have been announced and two Kansas City Royals claimed the honor, and Masyn Winn became the youngest St. Louis Cardinal to win the award announced on Sunday night.

Established in 1957, the Gold Glove Award honors the best defensive player at each position in each league. The voting process is made up of MLB managers and coaches and the sabermetrics community. Managers and coaches vote only within their own league and cannot vote for players on their own team.

The Royals’ left side of the diamond was good as gold in 2025.&nbsp; Shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. and third baseman Maikel Garcia won an American League Gold Glove Award at their respective positions this season.

It's the first time in franchise history that the Royals’ left side of the infield has won together in the same season and just the third time that a team’s left side of the infield has won together since 2003, following the ’03 Cardinals (Scott Rolen and Edgar Renteria) and ’13 Orioles (Manny Machado and J.J. Hardy).

 </figure>At 23 years, 191 days at season’s end, Winn is the franchise’s youngest Gold Glove winner, edging out third baseman Ken Reitz (24 years, 96 days) in 1975, per Elias Sports. Also, Winn is the fifth-youngest shortstop to win the award behind Anthony Volpe (2023), Alan Trammell (1980), Francisco Lindor (2016) and Ezequiel Tovar (2024).Winn also became the 100th Gold Glove winner in Cardinals history, far and away the most in MLB since Rawlings introduced the award in 1957. Winn joined Édgar Rentería (2002-03), Hall of Famer Ozzie Smith (1982-92) and Dal Maxvill (1968) as the only Cards shortstops to win the award.&nbsp;In his second full season, Winn made his biggest strides defensively while dazzling almost nightly. Limited to 129 games played (127 starts) because of a meniscus tear in his right knee that required arthroscopic surgery in late September, Winn committed just three errors in 501 total chances. His three errors at arguably the game’s most demanding position match the totals of Cal Ripken Jr. (1990) and Omar Vizquel (2000), the fewest by an MLB shortstop, per MLB.com research.Winn led all of baseball in outs above average through most of 2025 before missing the final two-and-a-half weeks of the regular season. He ultimately finished tied with Ke’Bryan Hayes and Ceddanne Rafaela at 21, trailing only Pete Crow-Armstrong (24) and Bobby Witt Jr. (24).Cardinals rookie Victor Scott II, a finalist for the NL’s Gold Glove Award in center field, lost out to Crow-Armstrong.
