Noah Cameron struck out a career-high eight while allowing four hits in six innings in his first scoreless start of the season, but a two run home run by Mitch Garver gave the Seattle Mariners a 2-0 win at Kauffman Stadium.
Cole Young walked to open the seventh inning before Garver squared up a 1-0 sinker from Nick Mears and launched a 406-foot shot to left field. It was a strong pitching effort from both teams, as the Royals and the Mariners combined for nine hits.
The Royals have lost five straight at home and have scored nine runs in their last six games. At the plate, of Kansas City's four hits, Maikel Garcia was 2-for-4. Vinnie Pasquantino was 1-for-3 with a walk, while Michael Massey was also 1-for-3. Mears fell to 2-3 on the season, giving up two runs on one hit and one walk in one inning of relief.
Kansas City and Seattle continue their series over the weekend with game two on Saturday. Stephen Kolek (2-0, 4.24 ERA, 12K's) gets the start for the Royals against George Kirby (5-3, 3.45 ERA, 52K's) for the Mariners. First pitch is at 3:10pm, pregame at 2:30 on KFEQ (680AM/95.3FM).
