St. Louis Cardinals starter Andre Pallante slowed down the Philadelphia Phillies giving up four hits over six innings helping the Cardinals beat the Phillies 2-0 at Busch Stadium to even up the series between the two.
Everson Pereira hit his fifth home run of the season and first since being claimed off waivers by the Cardinals from the Chicago White Sox on Thursday in the eighth to give St. Louis an insurance run. He also made an outstanding defensive play for the Cardinals in the fifth inning, making a leaping catch of a line drive at the center field wall to rob Alec Bohm of an extra-base hit.
Masyn Winn opened the scoring in the seventh inning for the Cardinals, lining a two-out single off Alex McFarlane, who was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley prior to the game by the Phillies, to drive in Jordan Walker. Walker went 0-for-2 with a seventh inning walk to snap a 10-game hitting streak which was his major league-best and fourth of at least 10 games this season.
George Soriano earned the win, improving to 6-3 on the season out of the buillpen, pitching a scoreless inning in relief of Pallante who allowed three walks and struck out two. Riley O’Brien pitched a scoreless ninth for his 30th save of the season. At the plate, Winn was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Periera was 1-for-3 with a home run and an RBI.
St. Louis and Philadelphia finish up their series tomorrow before a Thursday off day for the Cardinals. Kyle Leahy (8-4, 3.45 ERA, 99K's) takes the mound for the Cardinals against Zack Wheeler (10-3, 2.69 ERA, 132K's) for the Phillies. First pitch is at 1:15pm, coverage begins at 1:05 on KY 102 (102.5 FM).
