SIDNEY, Iowa — Fremont County officials have closed the 260th Street Bridge between Bluff Road and 225th Street following the discovery of severe structural damage during an inspection Thursday morning.
With no immediate alternate in close proximity, drivers are advised to follow the same detour currently posted for the Highway 2 repair project—which directs traffic south through Hamburg and back north on Interstate 29 to rejoin Highway 2.
There is currently no estimate for how long the bridge will remain closed, as crews assess the extent of the damage and evaluate available repair materials. Work with consultants is going on to explore the possibility of removing the deck as part of the repair strategy.
