Larry B. Apple, 80, of Maryville, Missouri, passed away at his home on Monday, September 1, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Larry was born on March 13, 1945, in Red Oak, Iowa to Welby Marvel Jr and Phyllis Jean (Westerlund) Apple. He was a graduate of Roosevelt High School (1963) in Des Moines, Iowa and attended Northwest Missouri State University. He proudly served in the United States Air Force.
On July 23, 1966, Larry married his junior high sweetheart, Joan Gillespie, in Des Moines. She survives of the home. Also surviving are two daughters: Christi (Seann) O’Riley of St. Joseph, MO, and their children, Garrett and Kenna O’Riley, Jodi (Chris) McLeroy of Castle Pines, CO, and their children, Logan McLeroy and Patrick (Jena) McLeroy
He is also survived by his brothers, Kirk (Jan) Apple and Bill Apple; brother-in-law, Bob (Lorrie) Nevitt; and sister-in-law, Rita (Bill) Gillespie Bergman.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Barb Apple Nevitt; brother-in-law, Don Gillespie; and sister-in-law, Sue Apple.
Larry worked mainly in the sales field and was a Realtor for many years. He was a respected member of the Missouri Realtors Association, serving as the President in 2003 and was honored as Missouri Realtor of the Year in 2010. He served on multiple boards including Tau Kappa Epsilon, Ten Man Square, and Northwest Missouri Board of Realtors.
Larry had a passion for many things, watching his daughters and grandchildren in sports and activities being his favorite, along with traveling with his wife, family, and friends. He also enjoyed: flying, golf, pickleball, Hapkido, riding his Harley, showing Grandpas 42 Chevy pick-up, boating and spending time at the Lake of the Ozarks. He earned his 5th degree black belt in Hapkido at the age of 65. He enjoyed mentoring others through Missouri Business Week and being a Hapkido instructor. Larry cherished time with his grandchildren and family. His love for family was the foundation of his life.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, September 8, at Price Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and a reception will be held following the burial at Something Borrowed Event Space.
In memory of Larry, memorials may be made to the New Nodaway Humane Society or Mosaic Hospice of Maryville.
