Arthur Raymond Squires, son of Faye “Toddy” and Effie Bell (Adams) Squires, was born in Clarinda, Iowa, on November 20, 1937. He entered into eternal rest at the Grape Memorial Hospital in Hamburg, Iowa, on July 27, 2025, at the age of 87 years, 8 months and 7 days.

As a child, Art’s family traveled a lot between Southwest Iowa and Oregon. During those years, Art had little formal education, but at the age of 50 he obtained his GED.

Art started working at a local mine as a young adult. In 1952, he began working for Henry Fields and was employed with the company for 45 years. He then went on to work for Earl Mays until retiring at the age of 68.

On July 18, 1960, Art was united in marriage to Mary Jane Hale in Shenandoah, Iowa. The couple spent one year in Northboro, Iowa, before moving to Shenandoah. Art enjoyed fishing in the Nishnabotna River, Walnut Creek or any pond he came across. He also enjoyed being outside gardening, cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs or Iowa Cyclones, and Art loved spending time with his family. He was a member of the Shenandoah Eagles.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Toddy and Effie Squires; in-laws, Ed and Leona Hale; sisters, Mary, Violet and Rosie; grandson, Christopher; and many brothers and sisters-in law. Those left to cherish his memory are wife, Mary; daughter, Pam Hodges (Patrick) of Red Oak, Iowa; son, Mike Squires of Des Moines, Iowa; daughter, Angie Doyle (Mick) of Ashland, Nebraska; brothers, John Squires of College Springs, Iowa, and Kenneth Squires (Judy) of Albia, Iowa; 19 grandkids and 16 great grandkids; many, many nieces and nephews, and friends.
