Its nearly time for the 26th annual Gregg Lynn Christmas for Kids Toy Drive, with coin jars appearing at area businesses starting today to raise money to support the Toy Drive.
JoeTown 107.5' Gregg Lynn says the coin jars, which will be at 15 area businesses plus the JoeTown 107.5 studio. He adds money raised in the coin jars helps in getting kids exactly what they want for Christmas from lists that aren't picked up by community members throughout the Toy Drive.
"We're going to have almost 250 kids this year, times $75 per kid, because we even raised the threshold for the toys, they get three toys each, $25 value, we need $18,750 in donations and/or toys," Lynn explains on the KFEQmunnity show. "Now a lot of the toys will be taken care of, we'll have listeners bring toys for specific kids."
Each kid the Toy drive provides a list of three items, so they get exactly what they want for Christmas.
"Any toys that did not get purchased by the deadline then we have these donations, and we go out and buy the toys to make sure the kids have it," Lynn says. "Any toys that don't get given out go to AFL-CIO for Adopt A Family, any donations that come in after we've purchased all the toys are split up among our groups, AFL-CIO, the YWCA shelter, Noyes Home, and Care Portal."
Lists for kids will go out later this month, which can be found on the Gregg Lynn Radio Show Facebook page. The Toy Drive concluded on Black Friday, November 27th with a live broadcast from 6am to 5pm. Coin jars will be collected on November 20th. Lynn says after the Toy Drive, presents will be wrapped, and kids will receive their presents during a massive Christmas party.
"Santa's there, Mrs. Clause is there, the folks from the Care Portal and the churches they're an umbrella over, come and do a lot of different games and crafts for the kids," Lynn says. "Palmer's Ice Cream and Desserts is giving us I think cookies and then of course Geneo's pizza is feeding all the kids and the caregivers, which is amazing."
