Gary Carl Refer was born to John (Jack) and Camilla Refer on January 30, 1938, as a twin. He passed away at the age of 87, August 10, 2025, in Clarinda.
He was raised and lived most of his childhood in Lenox, Iowa, where he also graduated high school. After high school, Gary headed on to barber school in Des Moines. He started his barber shop- in Villisca in 1957. Gary married Sharon Gutherie on December 13, 1959, to their union were born two daughters: Shelia K. and Trudy J. Gary enjoyed his work and all the stories he got while doing his job. He continued his work until 2018.
Gary was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, infant sister, 3 brothers, and 2 sisters-in-law.
Left behind to mourn his memory are his wife, Sharon, and two daughters: Sheila and husband Jay Johnson and Trudy and husband Lynn Wallingford, and three grandchildren, Ashley (Brandon) Adams, Aaron Wallingford, and Abbey (Dominick) Sexton; great-grandchildren Bowen, Cameron, Brecken, Carly, and Brilee and nieces, and nephews.
Gary loved his family and will be missed by them and many friends.
