Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman John Boozman says he hopes the committee will mark up a new farm bill next Thursday as negotiations continue on several key issues. The Arkansas Republican says he’s been working with the committee’s top Democrat, Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar, in an effort to keep the legislation bipartisan. One of the main topics under discussion is a Democratic proposal to delay a new state cost-share requirement for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP. Under current plans, states would begin sharing a portion of SNAP benefit costs starting in fiscal year 2028.
