KCPD: Driver dies hours after crash and fire

KANSAS CITY—Law enforcement are investigating a fatal crash and fire that occurred just before 8:30p.m. Friday in Kansas City, Missouri.

A Hyundai Sonata was traveling northbound on Blue Ridge at a high rate of speed, according KCPD Sergeant Phil DiMartino.  The driver failed to negotiate the curve of the road at 46th. The vehicle traveled off the roadway to the left, continued northbound through the grass before rolling. The car then caught on fire.

The driver, front seat passenger and rear seat passenger of the Hyundai were all transported to a local hospital with critical injuries.  The driver was initially listed in critical condition. The hospital pronounced the driver deceased just before 7a.m. Saturday, according Sergeant DiMartino. Police did not released the name of the driver or additional details. This is fatality #16 compared to #11 at this time last year in KCMO.
