Sandra Lee McKinnon was born October 13, 1944 in Clarinda, Iowa, the daughter of Marrel Sump and Ruth (Sunderman) Sump. She was the youngest of four children and grew up on the family farm near Yorktown, Iowa. Sandra was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Yorktown, Iowa. She attended the St. Paul Lutheran School through the eight grade and graduated from Clarinda High School with the class of 1962.
Sandra was united in marriage May 24, 1964 to Marvin McKinnon at St. Paul Lutheran Church. They were blessed with five children, Damion, Gregory, Mark, Kimberly and Michele.
Sandra and Marvin and their family followed work opportunities and lived in Arizona, Clarinda and Lincoln, Nebraska. During this time, Sandra used her skills as secretary and worked for several places including the Clarinda Municipal Hospital, the University of Nebraska and retired from Southeast Community College.
Family was always a priority for Sandra, growing up with many cousins and with her own family, taking care of her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed going to their activities and always enjoyed a visit with them.
Preceding Sandra in death were her parents, Marrel and Ruth Sump; husband, Marvin McKinnon; sister, Marilyn Mead.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Damion (Nicole) McKinnon of Lincoln, Greg (Danette) McKinnon of Clarinda, Mark (Michelle) McKinnon of Clarinda, Kim Miller of Lincoln, Michele (Scott) McKinnon-Johnson of Lincoln; grandchildren, Christopher, Alexandra, Bryce, Brent, Blake, Bailey, Brady, Taylor, Christian, Katlyn, Ethan, Kole; great grandchildren, Beckam, Peyton, Brooks, Benjamin, Will, Silas, Kooper; siblings, Darrel (Melanie) Sump of Clarinda, Phyllis Hart of California; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.
Sandra will forever be in the hearts of her loving family and friends.
Memorial services will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 6, 2025, at Nodaway valley Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa with Pastor David Herald officiating. Visitation will be held 9:00 a.m. to 10: 00 a.m. Saturday, December 6, 2025 at Nodaway Valley Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa. Burial will be in Summit Cemetery, rural Yorktown, Iowa at a later date. Memorials may be directed to Sandra McKinnon Memorial. Arrangements were entrusted to the Nodaway Valley Funeral Home of Clarinda.
