Delores Jean (Newberg) Fischer, the daughter of Frank Albert Newberg and Minnie Alice (Smith) Newberg was born Oct 12, 1935, at home in rural College Springs, Iowa, the youngest of 13 children. Growing up, she learned to work hard, milk cows, and do other chores a farm kid was expected to do in that era.

She graduated from College Springs High School in 1953. Following graduation, she worked as secretary to the Superintendent of the College Springs School District and then moved to Shenandoah, Iowa, to work as a cashier at the Peoples Finance Bank and then later at the Security Bank. On Dec 5, 1957, at the College Springs Methodist Church, Delores married Loren Henry Fischer, son of Carl Frederick and Mary Eleanor (Teachout) Fischer. Following their marriage, they lived in Shenandoah while building a home on the Fischer family farm east of Shenandoah. Delores and Loren moved to the farm in 1959 where she became a full-time homemaker and active partner, helper, and bookkeeper in the farm operation, a life she greatly enjoyed. Loren and Delores were blessed with four children Lorraine, Bernard, Margaret and Eloise

Delores was an active member of the Shenandoah United Methodist Church, the Questers Sunday School Class, the Country Guild Neighborhood Club, and the Antique Study Club, where she made many lifelong friends. Delores enjoyed working with youth, which she did as a Den Mother for Cub Scouts and helping Loren as leader of the Tarkio Soil Tillers 4-H club for 20 years. Loren and Delores spent many years volunteering as the coordinators of the Page County Fair Carnival.

Delores was honored as the 1987 Page County Farm Bureau Homemaker of the Year. Loren and Delores were honored as Honorary 4-H Members in 1985, as Shenandoah Optimist Club Friend of Youth in 1987, and as 1994 Page County Farm Bureau Outstanding Citizens.

Delores always raised a productive garden, raspberry and strawberry patches, chickens, and took care of many flower gardens. She was a very good cook, seamstress, and welcoming hostess. She enjoyed furniture and woodwork restoration, watching birds, music, fishing trips to Park Rapids, Minnesota, and learning and doing new crafts. She enjoyed teaching these skills to her children and grandchildren, and often planned special projects when the grandkids came to visit. She was a forthright, honest, and determined person who taught her children that they could do anything that they put their minds to. She and Loren made sure all their children took piano lessons, learned to play a musical instrument, and had a college education. She was a constant source of support and encouragement to her loved ones.

She was preceded in death by her husband Loren Fischer in 2000, her parents Frank and Minnie Newberg, and her 12 brothers and sisters: Mary and Carl Swim, Paul and Evelyn Newberg, Albert Newberg, Velma and Robert Patience, Agnes and Ernie Smith, Carl Newberg, Kenneth Earnest Newberg, Stella (Maxine) and Arden Greishaber, Harvie and Peggy Newberg, Robert Sheldon Newberg, Arllie Newberg, and Frances and Bill Offenburger.

She is survived by: Her four children: Lorraine (Rick) Torres of New Braunfels Tx, Bernard (Cynthia) Fischer of Shenandoah, Margaret Brady of Shenandoah, and Eloise (Meldon) Vos of Reasnor, IA. Her grandchildren: Taylor Torres, Zeller (Robyn) Torres, Karen Fischer, Kyle (Abbey) Fischer, Stacie Fischer, Brian (Sarah) Fischer, Loren (Michael) Verdegem, Jack Brady, Mikayla (Brandon) Bryan, Marissa Vos, Mariah (Cole) Vande Voort, Meleisha Vos, Majesta Vos and Mandeesa Vos.
