RILEY COUNTY—Riley County Emergency Dispatch received reports of a possible tornado shortly after 5 p.m. on Thursday, June 4, in northern Riley County east of the City of Riley. Outdoor warning sirens were sounded in affected areas, including:
- Riley and Leonardville at 5:16 p.m.
- Randolph and University Park at 5:25 p.m.
Initial reports indicate damage to five structures, including four on the east side of the City of Riley and one near Randolph. Volunteer firefighters with Riley County Fire District #1 also reported substantial tree damage and debris in the area. At this time, no injuries have been reported. In addition to storm damage, heavy rain has caused substantial flooding across Riley County. Several roadways have been closed due to high water and debris, including:
- Falcon Road from Riley to Barton Road
- U.S. Highway 77 from Indian Hill Road to the Marshall County line
These roads will remain closed until floodwaters recede and debris is cleared. Residents are urged to use caution and avoid flooded roadways. If the roadway is flooded, turn around, don’t drown. Do not drive or walk into floodwater. The National Weather Service will conduct an official damage assessment to determine whether a tornado occurred and, if so, the official EF rating.
