An award-winning poet is set to conclude Northwest Missouri State University’s Visiting Writers Series this month.

Green Tower Press Chapbook Prize winner Anthony Robinson will present his work from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. April 16 in the J.W. Jones Student Union Tower View Dining Room. Robinson's work is described as rooted in personal narrative, place and the uneven terrain of American life.

Robinson began writing poetry while serving in the U.S. Navy in the 1990s and later attended the University of Oregon, where he also taught. He lives and writes in rural Oregon.

His poems have appeared in journals and periodicals like The Brooklyn Rail, Court Green, The Iowa Review, Gulf Coast, Lungfull!, No Tell Motel, The Tiny, Verse and ZYZZYVA, among others. His first full-length book, “Failures of the Poets,” was published in 2023.

His chapbook, “Broke Republic,” received the 2024 Midwest Chapbook Prize from Northwest’s Green Tower Press and The Laurel Review.

The Visiting Writers Series is designed to enrich the university’s educational mission while promoting community, civil discourse and self-expression. The series is sponsored by Green Tower Press and the School of Language, Literature and Writing.
