WYANDOTTE COUNTY —A Kansas police detective is under investigation for alleged computer crimes.
On Monday, the Wyandotte County District Attorney announced the filing of charges against 36-yeara-old John Stimach, a detective with the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department. They include a felony Unlawful Acts Concerning Computers and one misdemeanor count of Official Misconduct, according to a media release from Kansas City, Kansas police.
The charges are the result of an Internal Affairs Investigation initiated by the KCKPD and forwarded to the district attorney for possible charging.
Authorities released no additional specific details on what prompted the charges. Just after 9p.m. Saturday Stimach was booked into the Wyandotte County Detention Center, according to online jail records. He met the requirements for bond and is no longer in custody
Stimach, who has been with police department since 2014, is currently on unpaid leave.
