The Downtown Maryville Board plans to hang red, white, and blue flags on light poles in downtown Maryville to celebrate veterans.
Banners featuring various veterans will be displayed through Veteran's Day on November 11th. Maryville resident Doug Seipel, and a member of the board, got the idea from a friend in Arizona and proposed it to the board. The project aims to honor individuals from Maryville and surrounding areas who have served in the military.
The initiative quickly gained traction online after being proposed on Facebook and filled all 28 spots for the inaugural year, showcasing the community's support for honoring veterans. The project was rushed to be completed before Veteran’s Day and the flags will hang through November.
