Louis Martin Saner Jr. was born on December 1st, 1937, in Shenandoah, Iowa, to Louis Saner Sr. and Bernice (Gleason) Saner. He passed away peacefully at Good Samaritan Society in Villisca, Iowa.
Lou grew up in Imogene, Iowa, and attended St Patrick Academy until he graduated in 1956. After graduation, Lou and a buddy hitchhiked to Omaha, Nebraska, and joined the United States Coast Guard. Lou was assigned to Coast Guard Sector San Francisco Station Morro Bay, California. While stationed in Morro Bay, Lou married Dennie Dee Davenport. They lived there for two years and then returned to Imogene, Iowa, until eventually settling in Shenandoah, Iowa.
Lou worked in several jobs with multiple at a time. He was a welder at Farm Master, a Bartender, Crestland CO-OP, EMT-I, and a school bus driver. Lou was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Southwest Iowa Theater Group, 22 Hunting Club, and Knights of Columbus. Lou enjoyed gardening, hunting, theater, church choir and spending time with his 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Lou is preceded in death by his wife of almost 62 years, Dennie Dee Saner (Davenport), daughter-in-law, Kim Saner (Gowing), his parents Lou and Bernice Saner, sister Rosalynn Martin, nephews Michael Martin, Stan Almeda and Matthew McIntyre and brother-in-law Doug Doyle.
Lou is Survived by his six children, Darrell (Holly) Saner, Tammy Parrott, Jeff Saner, Colleen (Dave) Racine, Tim Saner, and Kristie (TJ) Skalberg. Grandchildren, Alec (Leslie) Parrott, Jena (Kodi) Leslie, Madison (Kyle) Tillman, Lyndi Saner, Joseph (Shelby) Racine, Alexis (Jackson) Baker, Samantha Racine, Sara Skalberg, Kensila (Josh) Manley, Mason Saner, and Brittany Howard. Great grandchildren, Kloey Parrott, Laney Parrott, Nile Leslie, Piper Leslie, Murphy Leslie, Henry Tillman, Liam Tillman, Hallie Baker, Hayden Baker, Eli Baker, Allee Racine, Henry Racine, Weslee Racine, Joseph Washington, Kristian Riggins, Byron Jr. And many nieces, nephews and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 16, 2025 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shenandoah. Visitation with family will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 15, 2025 at the Wabash Memorial Chapel in Shenandoah with the reciting of the Rosary at 6:30 p.m. Memorials may directed to the family. Burial will be held at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah with military rites.
