Larry Eugene Gilbert, 85 of Shenandoah entered into eternal rest on Friday, December 19, 2025 in Shenandoah, Iowa. Larry was born on November 27, 1940 in Shenandoah, the son of Kimber and Aletha (Plautz) Gilbert.
Larry was a lifelong Shenandoah resident. It was here that he grew up and attended school. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force in May of 1959 and served his country with pride until he was honorably discharged in May of 1963. Larry had a high level security clearance and worked as an Alert Center Dispatcher. During his working years he drove a livestock truck alongside his dad. He also worked as a maintenance coordinator, a sanitation worker, did some heating and cooling installation and was a sheet metal fabricator.
Larry enjoyed drinking coffee in the morning and visiting with friends. He was preceded in death by his parents,son-in-law Michael Rausch and brother-in-law William Tripp. Those left to honor his memory include his daughter Kim Rausch of Shenandoah; granddaughters Haylie Ann Rausch and Mandi Marie Rausch both of Shenandoah; sister Lavonne Tripp of Omaha; other relatives and a host of friends.
In keeping with Larry's wishes, no formal services will be held. He will be laid to rest in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah. Memorials may be directed to the family.
