A service used to send severe weather alerts to residents is being discontinued in Nodaway County.
The Maryville Department of Public Safety and Nodaway County Emergency Management announced it will no longer utilize Textcaster, the service that distributes severe weather alerts to residents on their phones. The service will be used through the end of the year after the department announced last Thursday it would end the use by December 31st
In a news release, the Maryville Department of Public Safety and Nodaway County Emergency Managment revealed that Textcaster restructured its fee schedule, which included raising its rates. The department decided to discontinue the service, with there being free weather apps the community could utilize to receive the same severe weather alerts.
