Patricia (Patty) Jean Shafar was born December 6, 1928, on a farm outside of Lenox, Iowa the daughter of Frank Hayes and Gladys Davis. She grew up attending school in Gravity, graduating with the class of 1946. On May 13, 1948, she married Elvin Shafar. Patty and Elvin lived their entire life on the same farm where Elvin was born until they moved to Gravity in 1977, then they retired in Bedford in 1995.
Patty worked at the NFO in Corning for 18 years. She enjoyed working in the garden and growing flowers around the yard. She enjoyed going to coffee with friends and the Koffee Kup in Gravity and at Godfathers in Bedford. She and Elvin enjoyed fishing in Minnesota and Canada and dancing. She and Elvin never missed an event if their two kids, Connie and Mike were involved … no matter how far they had to travel. One of Patty’s biggest joys was watching her grandson, Sean grow up and once again not missing any event where Sean was involved. She also loved to watch her great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Camille and Vin get started with their activities.
Left to cherish the memories of a wonderful mother and grandmother are her two children, Connie Shafar of Bettendorf, Iowa; Mike Shafar of Gravity, Iowa; a grandson, Sean Shafar and wife Kate of Gravity, Iowa; three great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Camille, and Vin; along with many other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death was her husband of 71 years Elvin Shafar; daughter-in-law Jan Shafar; her parents Frank Hayes and Gladys Davis; two sisters, Lavon Vest and Marton McMahill; three brothers, Roquel Davis, Butch Davis and George Davis.
Luncheon for Patty Shafar, 96, of Bedford, Iowa will be held Wednesday, August 20, 2025 at United Methodist Church in Bedford, at 12:00 PM. Memorials may be directed to Bedford United Methodist Church or the Taylor County Museum in Patty's honor.
