Barbie Huerter July 31, 1952-October 10, 2025

Barbie passed away on Friday afternoon, October 10, 2025 at Nebraska Medicine in Omaha.  She continued to give the gift of life in her passing through tissue donation.  A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shenandoah at 10:30 a.m.  Burial of her cremated remains will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday afternoon in the Essex Cemetery.  The family will greet friends on Tuesday evening, October 14th at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m.  The rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m.  Memorials are suggested to the Essex Fire and Rescue Department.   

Barbara Sue Huerter was born on July 31, 1952 in Weed, California.  She was the beloved daughter of James and Rita (Ledford) Butcher.  Barbie entered into eternal rest on Friday, October 10, 2025 in Omaha, Nebraska surrounded by her loving family.  

Barbie’s early years were spent in the Lake of the Ozarks area of Sunrise Beach.  She graduated from high school in 1970 in Camdenton, Missouri.  While Steve was painting bridges for Bud Turnbull down at the Lake of the Ozarks he met the love of his life.  They couple were united in marriage on March 12, 1971 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.  

Barbie was a beloved daycare provider at the Essex Childcare Center for 38 years  She loved, nurtured, instructed, cared for and molded the lives of so many children through her work.  Her daycare children loved her so much and whenever they would see her out in public, they would run to her with open arms and give her a big hug!  When she wasn’t working with children her other hobbies included bowling, playing cards, colored pencil drawings, crocheting, and enjoying time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.   Barbie and Steve enjoyed many winters in South Padre Island.  They loved walking along the beach and collecting shells.  

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Rita and a sister Jym Butcher.    Those left to cherish her memory include her beloved husband Stephen Huerter; son Mike Huerter and wife Judy; daughter Tonya Stoaks and boyfriend Stephen Goodall; grandchildren Dalton and Macayla Stoaks; 3 great-grandchildren Wylder, Layla and Rekker; in-laws Rich & Stella Huerter, Nick & Connie Huerter, Jerry & Shari Huerter, Tim & Laurie Heurter, Martin and Leslie Huerter and Christine Huerter; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
