Northwest Missouri State University's Percussion Ensemble will present their spring show next Monday, April 13, featuring a mix of music played on traditional percussion and the performer's bodies.

The program includes a range of percussion pieces, such as the vibraphone duet “Hall of Mirrors” and the marimba concerto “White Pines.” It also features original compositions by Zane Papek, a senior mathematics major from Smithville, Missouri.

As previously mentioned, several selections incorporate percussion on the body, including a duet inspired by the game rock, paper, scissors and “Bodix,” a quartet piece that uses varied sounds of the body to create rhythmic grooves.

“Not only is it a good place to go listen to music, but it’s an experience,” said Payton Dollins, a senior instrumental music education major from Liberty, Missouri, who will perform a marimba arrangement of “Over the Rainbow.” “We really incorporate transitions and stage sets that catch your eye and that are visually interesting.”

The concert is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Charles Johnson Theater at the Olive DeLuce Fine Arts Building. Admission is free and open to the public. There will also be a livestream of the show, viewable HERE.
