Sen. Lindsey Graham died late Saturday after a brief illness. The South Carolina Republican was 71.
On social media, President Trump and members of the Missouri and Kansas U.S. Senate delegations shared thoughts on the life of Graham.
Senator Jerry Moran wrote, "Saddened to hear of the passing of my friend and colleague, Senator Lindsey Graham. He spent his life in service to our country, both in uniform and in the United States Senate. He cared deeply about preserving the values that make our nation unique, and he was committed to strengthening American leadership on the global stage. Robba and I are praying for his family, loved ones and staff during this difficult time."
Senator Eric Schmitt wrote, "I’m waking up like everyone else this morning to the news of Lindsey Graham’s sudden passing. Jaime and I are truly saddened by the news.
Lindsey was a champion for the people of South Carolina. Anyone who ever knew him has lots of fond memories and great stories. Some of mine were on the golf course with him — a place where you can learn a lot about somebody and get to know them. We’d agree on things. We’d disagree on things. But no matter what, we had a lot of laughs. He was also unquestionably the life of any dinner with colleagues. He was one of kind.
I’m praying for him, his friends and family during this unbelievably hard time."
