On August 14, police initiated an investigation that centered on cases of child abuse, sexual battery, and aggravated assault involving three victims under the age of 18, according to Atchison Police Chief Mike Wilson.

Just after 5p.m. August 20, police arressted Alyssa M. Zeltner, 31, Atchison, in the 1200 block North 5th Street on a District Court warrant charging her with Endangering a Child.

The investigation also focused on child abuse involving a victim under the age of 10 that first had been reported to the Department of Children and Family Services, according to Atchison Police Chief Mike Wilson.

That investigation led to two other victims under the age of 18. One victim had been threatened with a knife and the other was a victim of sexual battery. That investigation continued as police served a search warrant on Thursday to locate evidence where the suspect lived. The suspect, identified as 31-year-old Terry Jones, was taken into custody at the residence. He is being held on requested charges of abuse of a child, aggravated assault, and sexual battery.
