
FRANKLIN COUNTY — The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning on Monday for portions of northeast Kansas including Franklin County and Miami counties.
In Franklin County, the storm caused structural damage, but no loss of life. Three minor injuries were reported from rural areas, according to the Franklin County Sheriff's office.
A majority of the town of Ottawa was without power and streetlights were not working. The Evergy outage map shows most of the power has been restored in the area early Tuesday.
A tornado touched down in Hillsdale, Kansas, according to the Miami County sheriff causing significant damage to homes, businesses, and other structures. There were two reported minor injuries related to the storm, according to the sheriff. Numerous RVs and campers were overturned, and several homes have been destroyed. All entrances into the city of Hillsdale are currently closed.
Emergency crews continue working throughout the affected area to check on residents and assess damage.
National Weather Service survey crews will work assess the damage and determine the size of the tornado.
