The Missouri State Highway Patrol has announced a promotion within Troop H, which serves Andrew and Buchanan counties.
Captain Andrew Tourney, commanding officer of Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop H announced today that Cpl. John Harrison has been promoted to sergeant and designated the zone commander for Zone 5. Harrison was appointed to the Patrol as a member of the 90th Recruit Class, according to a news release.
After graduating from the Patrol’s Law Enforcement Academy in December 2009, he was assigned to Troop A, Zone 1, Platte County. In March 2020, Harrison was promoted to corporal and designated the assistant zone supervisor of Zone 1. In January 2024, he took a voluntary demotion to Trooper and transferred to Troop H, Zone 5, Andrew and Buchanan counties. This past year, in May 2025, Harrison was promoted to corporal and designated the assistant zone supervisor of Zone 5, where he remained until his promotion to sergeant.
Sergeant Harrison grew up in Mound City, Missouri, and graduated from Mound City R-II in 2006. Before joining the Patrol, he attended Missouri Western State University.
