Missouri’s Board of Education president has resigned.

Missouri does not have a state education commissioner and now State Board of Education President Mary Schrag has resigned, effective immediately.

Schrag, of southern Missouri’s West Plains, served on the board for seven years. A news release from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education says Vice President Brooks Miller has transitioned to serve in her place, at least for now.

The board is scheduled to elect a long-term replacement later this month. Karla Eslinger resigned as state education commissioner, effective June 1st. An interim commissioner has not been announced.
