Shawna Cheyenne Huffman was born February 27, 1996 in Buchannan County, Missouri and passed away on February 26, 2026. Her parents were Donnie J. Huffman and Mira A. Perkins. Shawna had other siblings. Shawna spent her early years living in McFall, Missouri.
Shawna moved to Albany, Missouri to live in residential home placement with New Trails in December of 2004. She has lived with New Trails since she was 8 years old. From the very beginning Shawna loved to listen to music, take naps, chase bugs, and keep staff on their toes. It was a known fact that this was Shawna’s world, and we had the privilege to live in it!! Shawna loved her animals. She liked seeing staff’s pets, going to the dog pound, and at various times New Trails experimented with Shawna having a dog of her own. There were times a puppy was a very good motivator used by staff to encourage Shawna to complete certain tasks. Staff just needed to say, “Do you want to go see the puppy’s?” and she would stop what she was doing and go.
Shawna also had a great personality. There was no one who was beyond her teasing. She would say and do things that let you know she was teasing you, even a passenger in the passing car.
Shawna graduated from Albany High School in 2014 and continued to live out the rest of her life here in Albany. Shawna began at a very early age with individuals who knew and took care of her from the Albany Regional Office. They have continued to support Shawna and made sure her needs were always met through out her life. Her support coordination, children’s division, her current guardian, all these people are Shawna’s family. Shawna also has years of staff who have cared for, loved her, and made her life as enjoyable as possible. Shawna has always had a Great family. She is missed!!
