In March, the FAA announced it was suspending the use of visual separation for mixed aircraft near major airports, but close calls such as one in California involving a Boeing 737 and Army Black Hawk helicopter have continued.
During Tuesday’s Senate Commerce hearing, Kansas U.S. Senator Jerry Moran questioned Airline Pilot's Association President Capt. Jason Ambrosi on the status of implementation of the FAA’s rule an how expanded use of ADS-B technology – included in the Senate-passed ROTOR Act – would help prevent future close calls.
